Kate is the head of the specialist Youth Department. In this capacity she is responsible within the firm for managing the highly technical and specialist rules of evidence, procedure and sentencing which apply to young people who come to the attention of the criminal justice system before their 18th birthday. Clients and their families in this situation can be particularly vulnerable, and often require a bespoke and sometimes multi-disciplinary approach to the difficulties they face in order fully to participate in the police station and court process, particularly where there is to be a trial. A qualified duty solicitor and higher court advocate, Kate has represented clients charged with offences ranging from murder to fare evasion, and almost everything in between, and brings all her experience to bear in her chosen area of expertise in the Youth Court.
